Aerobics affects the mind…….in a good way that is

Fresh research from University of Applied Sciences in Netherlands suggests that aerobics exercise is not just good for your physique, but it also improves your brain power. According to the lead author of the study, Maaike Angevaren;

Aerobic exercises that improve cardiovascular fitness, also help boost cognitive processing speed, motor function and visual and auditory attention in healthy older people…”

Participants in the study performed aerobics in a 2-7 day period for 90 days. It was found that their cognitive abilities were enhanced as well as their motor function and visual and auditory attention (that means they have eyes and ears like superman…..ok maybe not).

So all you wannabe brainiacs need to start doing more aerobics, (that includes me of course).

Leave me comments with the changes you experience…

Drink this for better brain function

You get up early in the morning to prepare for work, but you are still kinda half asleep, so you start brewing some coffee to get you going. Or you are at the office and feeling mentally exhausted, so you head over to the coffee machine to fill your cup again. But is coffee helpful in giving your brain a boost.

Some people would recommend tea instead as it does not contain as much caffeine, but according to an article on Real Age, Juice, (pure fruit juice that is) wins the so called beverage wars. The article states that juice is a much better option when it comes to Alzheimer’s, as pure apple or citrus juice contain Polyphenols, which are determined to be ‘brain friendly’.

So instead of turning on that coffee pot in the morning, or relaxing with a bottle of beer in the evening (which KILLS brain cells), why not enjoy a fresh and delicious glass of fruit juice.

Using your mind as a resource to lose weight

This story is not directly related to the topic of this blog, but it has some connections, and some lessons that we can learn from, about using our minds to change the way we think of ourselves.

I found this story on USA Today’s website, talking about a 52 year old mother of 5 kids, who lost 145 pounds starting in january 2006. What’s amazing about this story is that she also helped her husband, who is of the same age, to lose almost 100 pounds as well.

As Diane Reuter describes it in her own words, “My approach to food is different now. Instead of saying: ‘I can’t,’ as in I can’t have a piece of cake, burger or fries, it’s always, ‘I can.’ As in, I can have a beautiful green salad, a delicious piece of fruit, a comforting cup of green tea. In that way, I’ve never felt deprived.”

What Diane basically do was change her tought process, her attitude towards food. Instead of the thinking in a negative way about what she eats, she started looking at foods that were beneficial to her.

The mind is a very valuable resource in creating wholesome habits. In Diane’s own words,

The most important tool in this process is your brain. I didn’t look at it as a situation where I was depriving myself but instead as a situation where I was feeding my body good food.”

So if you are trying to improve any facet of your life or want to accomplish something, you need to change your thinking and create a vision, in your mind first, before you go about completing the task. You will fare much better when you do so.

Can we create opportunities in our lives by just thinking about them

A lot has been said about having the right mind-set to achieve what what you want or need. The self-help tsunami of products that flooded the bookstores and the internet revolving around the teachings of The Secret, were gobbled up like hot pancakes.

But can thinking about the opportunities you desire, and really.. really wanting them, actually make them appear into your lives. During my research into the discipline of the mind, I have come into contact with many people who believe that this is true, and they have even shared their stories and experiences about it.

For example, I had a conversation with a woman in her 60’s who told me that all her life, she has mostly gotten what she wanted, just by thinking and believing that she was deserving of them.

I had the opportunity to talk to a single mother of three, who told me that when times were tough for her — raising her kids by herself — she used to perform an exercise, where she developed a mental image of a solution to her problems and visualized the difficulties being resolved.

Now, whether this happens because their thoughts are “aligned with the universe” as some people would have you believe, or whether it’s their subconscious mind working for them to find a solution, that is for you to decide.

But I think what everyone can agree on is that our minds have this capability to adapt to situations, where we initially think we cannot do something, but when push comes to shove, we actually achieve our goals, even when they seem impossible at first.

When I was learning to write a book, or creating a website (and i’m not ashamed to admit that i am technically retarded), I used to run into problems and my mind would just go blank, I took a time out and embolded myself with the thoughts that what I want to accomplish is possible and that nothing is beyond my abilities.

Your subconscious mind has the power and the capacity to achieve what you want. Just aid it by supplanting high-grade thoughts into it.

I will cover this topic in detail and will soon write more about the power of the subconscious mind. I would also like to know what your opinions and views are. Leave your comments and let me know.

How to focus your thoughts to ease your pain

Can people use their mental abilities (thoughts) to control pain and relax their bodies? According to an article on Spine-health.com, yes you can.

By using a combination of breathing exercises and mental imagery techniques, you can reduce chronic back pain and fatigue. The article also describes how to reduce muscle tension by focusing your thoughts away from the painful part of your body or by visualizing something soothing, like an ice pack, applied to the aching part of your body.

The mind itself is a very powerful pain reliever, and the techniques, if performed correctly can be very helpful. Do keep in mind, that this does not mean that you can forego a doctor’s advice and start self-treatment.

While it is true that our sensations are produced in our minds and that lot of them can be overcome by rleaxation techniques , professional help is neccesary when it comes to serious conditions.
